Leek salad (sałatka z porów)

Although frequently used in soups in the US, leeks are a more common salad ingredient in Poland. Health conscious chefs will agree that leeks are a good source of vitamins and nutrients.


  • 3 leeks
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 2 apples
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise

Remove green tops from 3 leeks. (Freeze greens for soup). Trim off ‘whiskers’ at bottom of root if still attached. Cut leeks in half lengthwise and wash well under running water to remove any imbedded grit. Cut each half in half lengthwise, this should give you 12 leek sticks. Place them on cutting-board side by side and dice fairly fine.

Place in bowl.

Add: 1 stalk celery, diced fine, and 1-2 peeled cooking apples, diced fine.

Toss ingredients and lace with mayonnaise.

Serving Suggestions

Serve as side with any meat dishes.
